U9 Vipers

Rotherfield 6 Caversham AFC 1
March 29th 2008

On a gloomy day, Rotherfield started brightly and had Caversham on the back foot right from the kick-off. Nick Swan scored the opening goal with a shot that struck the base of the post but then rebounded into the goal off the unfortunate 'keeper. The Vipers kept up the pressure and it wasn't long before Jack Stevens added a second when he followed up after an Adam Fearnside shot had been well saved.

Caversham came desperately close to getting right back in the game when a fine shot from distance struck the crossbar, but it fell kindly for the Vipers defense who got the ball clear.

In the second half, Rotherfield continued to create chances; first, a well-hit Fearnside shot was matched by an equally impressive save and then Morgan Green also came close, but it was Swan who eventually added the third with an impressive header from a corner. Stevens then chalked up his second of the game with an early shot which found the far corner of the goal.

Rotherfield's defense of Kalhan Shah, Owen Lowe and Isaac Hylton had worked extremely hard to maintain a clean sheet, but Caversham's determination and persistence paid off towards the end of the half when they got a goal back to make it 4-1.

In the closing stages Fearnside added a fifth with a well-struck shot from distance and then finally a lovely passing move saw the ball move from Liam Ruiz to Fearnside then on to Swan who duly completed his hat-trick, making the final score 6-1.
