U9 Vipers

Rotherfield 3 Wokingham & Emmbrook 5
January 26th 2008

Rotherfield's unbeaten start to the season finally came to an end this week against a determined Wokingham and Emmbrook side.

The Vipers started well enough, with Liam Ruiz giving them the lead after just three minutes when he fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net following a neat pass from Jack Stevens. A few moments later Ruiz returned the favour, playing a similar ball to Stevens who duly made it 2-0. Wokingham came right back though and two goals in five minutes had them back on level terms. Rotherfield edged ahead in the fifteenth minute with a goal from Nick Swan, but their opponents grabbed two more before the break giving them a 3-4 lead at the end of an action-packed half.

In the second half, Rotherfield had the advantage of playing with the slope and the wind but it was Wokingham who continued to apply pressure and looked more likely to score. Eventually the pressure told, with Wokingham adding a fifth with a well-taken free-kick from just outside the penalty area. The Vipers did begin to look more dangerous as the half went on, but at the final whistle the score remained 3-5.

The defense was kept busy all day and so the effort award was given to full-back Kalhan Shah for a committed display.
