Rotherfield United 16 Woodley Hammers 1
September 9th 2006

Rotherfield made a superb start to the season with a commanding 16-1 victory against the Woodley Hammers. Following a good showing in the pre-season tournament at Sandhurst last week, United showed no signs of rustiness and were soon dominant in all areas of the pitch; Defenders Kalhan and Jack were disclipined throughout and dealt comfortably with each Woodley attack. In midfield, Nick, Liam, Daniel and Morgan were tireless and competitive, giving the Hammers no time to settle. In attack, Owen and Adam looked sharp and gave the Woodley defenders a torrid time.

The first-half saw seven goals in all, from Adam (2), Nick (2), Liam (2) and an own-goal. United added nine more after the break from Owen (4), Adam (2), Nick (2), and Morgan (1). Hammers, to their credit, kept going right to the end and grabbed a consolation goal in the last minute.

The fairplay award was given to Liam who not only scored twice, but more importantly was instrumental in several others with his inciteful passing.
