U9 Vipers
In their first ever Division One match, Rotherfield faced a Wrightchoice side who were also recently promoted.
Rotherfield almost opened the scoring after just three minutes when striker Jamie Hammant-Cracknell fired a low shot just wide of the bottom corner; Adam Fearnside also came close a few minutes later when a left-foot shot struck the base of the post but bounced away to safety. United's pressure did however eventually lead to a goal when Fearnside was on hand to fire the ball home from inside a crowded penalty area.
Wrightchoice were competing well though and as the half went on they began to look more threatening; Morgan Green and Kalhan Shah had to absorb a lot of pressure in the United defense but at half-time the score was still 1-0.
In the second half, Owen Lowe came close to extending Rotherfield's lead but his close-range effort was well saved by the Wrightchoice 'keeper. Morgan Green's ball-winning influence in midfield was helping United to break down the Wrightchoice attacks but United were unable to carve out any clear-cut opportunities of their own. It was Wrightchoice who struck next when a cross from the left was bundled in from a yard out to make it 1-1.
With five minutes to go and the game in the balance at 1-1, Rotherfield were awarded a penalty when a defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area. Fearnside struck the spot-kick with venom and although the keeper kept it out with a fantastic save, the rebound was forced in to give United the win.
The fairplay award was given to Morgan Green for another committed midfield display.
