Rotherfield United 2 Woodley Wanderers 0
February 17th 2007

Rotherfield got back to winning ways this week with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Woodley Wanderers.

United had what seemed to be a dream start when Adam Fearnside threaded the ball in from a tight angle with only two minutes on the clock; unfortunately, the ball was adjudged to have gone out of play earlier in the move and the goal wasn't allowed to stand.

Rotherfield continued to apply pressure and were again unlucky not to go ahead when an astute Morgan Green short corner was well struck by Fearnside but equally well saved by the Wanderers 'keeper. United did eventually get the breakthrough a few minutes later when the Woodley goalie could only parry a well-struck Owen Lowe shot and Jack Stevens was on hand to force the ball over the line. Rotherfield were starting to knock the ball around well, and by half-time Isaac Hylton had been untroubled in the United goal.

After the break, Nick Swan twice came close to getting United's second, with the second effort just grazing the base of the post. Defenders Harry Sayer and Jack Williams were dealing comfortably with the Wanderers attacks, but with the score still at 1-0, United needed another goal to make the game safe. It came from a lovely passing move where Fearnside found Liam Ruiz who in turn picked out Stevens who made no mistake in grabbing his second of the game.

The fairplay award was given to Adam Fearnside for an influencial midfield display, but the whole squad should be commended for a promising show of teamwork.
