Rotherfield United 3 Wokingham and Emmbrook 0
October 13th 2007

United's impressive run continued this week with a 3-0 win over a strong Wokingham and Emmbrook side.

The first five minutes saw few clear chances for either side, but Rotherfield then broke the deadlock when Kalhan Shah launched a huge throw-in into the box and Adam Fearnside was able to drill a low shot past the Wokingham 'keeper. It could have been two just a minute later but an excellent defensive header off the line kept the scores as they were.

Owen Lowe, Jack Williams and Shah were looking very organised at the back for the stripes, restricting Wokingham to just a handful of half-chances. Behind them, Isaac Hylton was keeping things tidy in goal and distributing the ball well.

Mid-way through the half, Rotherfield added a noteworthy second goal; The Wokingham goalie drop-kicked the ball clear only to have Fearnside volley it back from the centre-circle over the retreating 'keeper into the roof of the net. Wokingham were by no means out of the game though and came close to getting a goal back with a shot that beat the 'keeper but they were denied by a fine goal-line clearance from Kalhan Shah. Just before the break, United almost extended their lead when Jack Stevens beat the last defender with some good footwork but his shot was inches wide of the far post.

After the change of ends, Rotherfield did grab their third goal when a short corner was played to Nick Swan who smashed the ball high into the Wokingham goal. In the final ten minutes of the game, United played some lovely attacking team football; shots from Liam Ruiz, Morgan Green and Stevens all came close to extending the lead but when the whistle blew it was still 3-0.

The effort award was given to Owen Lowe for an astute defensive display.
