Rotherfield United 7 Meadway Youth 1
May 12th 2007

For the third week in a row Rotherfield got off to a flying start, opening the scoring inside the first minute; A Morgan Green pass found Adam Fearnside who forced the ball in from close-range to make it 1-0. Another good move followed, with Green again finding Fearnside who this time played in Liam Ruiz who finished well to make it 2-0. Ruiz then turned provider, finding Green in the box who showed good strength holding off two defenders before firing in the third.

As half-time approached, United were easily playing some of their best football of the season with excellent awareness and movement throughout the team.

After the break, Rotherfield continued where they had left off; Nick Swan crossed the ball for Ruiz to score his second of the game and then soon after Swan passed to Fearnside who added the fifth. Fearnside then completed his hat-trick with a good individual effort mid-way through the half.

As United pressed on in search of another, Meadway conceded a penalty when Swan was upended in the box; Daniel Jordan struck the spot-kick well but the 'keeper made an excellent save to keep it out. With five minutes to go, United added a seventh when Swan found the bottom corner after Jack Stevens had played in a great ball from the wing.

Meadway showed great spirit though, grabbing themselves a consolation goal in the very last minute; the ball broke for their attacker at the half-way line who ran in on goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot which went in off the crossbar.

The effort award was given to Nick Swan for some excellent teamwork.
