U9 Vipers
This week, Rotherfield were faced with the prospect of a tough game against the team currently in second place in the league, Wrightchoice.
United got off to the best possible start when an Adam Fearnside pass picked out Liam Ruiz who coolly slotted the ball past the 'keeper from the edge of the box. Almost straight away, the same pairing combined again to give Ruiz his tenth of the season and put Rotherfield two in front. Fearnside then added two more in quick succession with a pair of great strikes from outside the box and then completed his hat-trick before half-time following a long run and finish from close-range.
Wrightchoice made some changes for the second-half and began to pose some threats of their own; Kalhan Shah and Jack Williams showed resilience in defense though and a number of timely interceptions prevented Wrightchoice from getting on the scoresheet. United were still full of running and Fearnside soon added a sixth with a carbon-copy breakaway goal. Fellow front-man Owen Lowe was unlucky not to add another when he hit the post following a Nick Swan cross, but the seventh did eventually come when Morgan Green took a viciously curling corner which fooled the defense and went straight in.
With just a few minutes to go, Fearnside made it eight when a mis-hit corner fortuitously found its way into the far top corner. Rotherfield goalie Isaac Hylton was in fine form throughout the half, but Wrightchoice did eventually rob him of a clean-sheet with a well-taken consolation goal right before the final whistle.
The fairplay award was given to Kalhan Shah for an astute defensive performance.
