Rotherfield United 3 Woodley Saints 1
May 5th 2007

Rotherfield started the game in confident mood, knocking the ball around nicely in the opening stages and it wasn't long before Jack Stevens played Adam Fearnside in to grab the opening goal. Moments later, Stevens himself came close to adding a second following a Morgan Green pass. Saints however responded well and soon had an equaliser after a long shot was saved well by Owen Lowe but the rebound was forced in.

United's initial confidence seemed to waver and as Woodley pressed on, only a good save from Lowe kept the scores level. Before the break though Stevens made another telling pass to Green who was able to grab Rotherfield's second from close-range.

After the restart, Nick Swan played a good ball in to Fearnside who struck again to extend United's lead. Woodley again came back strongly but Lowe repeated his first-half heroics with a string of quality saves.

Liam Ruiz carved out an opportunity for Stevens at the other end after a great turn and pass, but the shot was just wide and then Ruiz himself just missed the post with an effort from the edge of the box.

Saints kept up the pressure and the Rotherfield rearguard of Daniel Jordan, Kalhan Shah and Jack Williams were having to battle hard to maintain United's lead. Just before the end, the Woodley attackers did break free and with only the 'keeper to beat, a second goal seemed inevitable; Lowe capped a fine performance though with the save of the game, throwing himself at the feet of the oncoming attacker and forcing the ball out for a corner, enabling Rotherfield to run out 3-1 winners.

The effort award was given to Owen Lowe for a brave goalkeeping display.
