U8
6-0 is becoming a familiar scoreline for Rotherfield as this was the third consecutive week that it has been achieved by a buoyant U8 team. Even more pleasing was this was the fourth clean sheet in a row.
To start however it was a familiar story of Rotherfield struggling to get into the game and although dominating, unable to turn possession into goals. To Hammers credit they restricted Rotherfield to a few half chances and although they did not look dangerous themselves 0-0 at half time was probably a fair scoreline.
The second half was a completely different story with Rotherfield very quickly out of the blocks and within the first minute of the restart they were ahead with an opportunist piece of finishing by Kemp from close range. A second quickly followed with Martinez opening his account for the third match in a row finishing precisely from a tight angle.
Big gaps started to appear in the Woodley defence as they pushed forward trying to get back into the game allowing the Rotherfield forwards more and more space. This proved costly as Newbold, feeding off an inch perfect pass from Atkinson, fired in an unstoppable shot from close range. This was soon followed by another from Martinez who spotted the goalkeeper of his line and chipped him fom just inside the oppositions half.
The goals really started to flow now as Hammers seemed to feel the game was beyond them. Kemp helped himself to his second with a cute finish and then the pick of the bunch as Martinez completed his hat trick. Luke Mullin picked up the ball on the right wing and after beating two players fainted to shoot but instead lay it beautifully into the path of Martinez who arrowed the ball into the far corner with his left foot.
The effort award went to Newbold for an all action performance.
